Did you know that Rudolph has been around for almost 70 years? Robert L. May created the character in 1939 as part of a promotional effort by the Montgomery Ward Company. The character really took off in 1949 when songwriter Johnny Marks composed the famous tune, which was recorded by singer and cowboy star Gene Autry. It sold 2 million copies that first year alone, and went on to become one of the bestselling songs of all time!

History was made again in 1964, when “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” became the first full-length TV special to employ stop-motion animation. The special premiered not only a collection of memorable new songs (also written by Marks) but introduced a stable of beloved supporting characters that have made an indelible mark on the Rudolph legend. Today, we can't think of Rudolph without his pals Yukon Cornelius, Hermey, Clarice, Charlie-in-the-Box, Sam the Snowman and the Abominable Snow Monster!

The television special is considered by many to be the definitive interpretation of the“Rudolph” story, and is the version on which Forever Fun has based product. It’s a true classic!
